Leslie Reed, oboe

Leslie Reed has been Principal Oboe of the Long Beach Symphony since 1997. She is also a member of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and Camerata Pacifica and has been principal oboe of the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra since 1987. Ms. Reed has played principal oboe as a guest with LACO, Pasadena Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic New Music Group, Xtet, the Orchestra of Saint Luke's, and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. She was invited to join the Los Angeles Philharmonic as acting associate principal oboe for the 1994-1995 season, which included tours of Europe, Asia, and the Eastern United States. She was associate principal oboe of the Carmel Bach Festival for ten years and has performed at the La Jolla Summerfest and the Ojai Festival. Ms. Reed was a First Prize Winner in the 1985 Coleman Competition and a finalist in the 1988 Bert Lucarelli International Competition for Solo Oboists.

She has appeared as soloist with local orchestras many times. Recent performances include the Mozart Oboe Concerto in 2005 with the Santa Barbara Chamber Orchestra, and in 2007 with the Long Beach Symphony, Ms. Reed performed the Oboe Concerto of Richard Strauss together with the World Premiere of the oboe solo movement from David Newman's Concerto for Wind Quintet and Orchestra.

Ms. Reed has been instructor of oboe at the Colburn School of Performing Arts since 1987. Her students have gone on to attend the Eastman School of Music, Juilliard School, Manhattan School of Music, Interlochen Arts Academy, the Music Academy of the West, Aspen Music Festival, and Tanglewood.

Ms. Reed is a graduate of the New England Conservatory of Music. Her principal teachers have been Wayne Rapier, William Criss, Allan Vogel, and John Mack.
